Safeguarding
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Trust safeguarding vision:
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do for all members of our Trust community. Fostering a secure environment that empowers and protects, ensuring positive outcomes and wellbeing for everyone, irrespective of their needs or their background.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is a senior member of the school’s leadership team who is designated to take lead responsibility for dealing with safeguarding issues. The DfE strongly recommendeds that schools appoint and train a Deputy DSL to act in the absence of the DSL and support her/him.
At Healey, we have five members of staff trained as DSLs.
Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL):
Mrs Lang (Headteacher)
Mrs Widdop (SENDCo)
Deputy DSLs:
Miss Bradnum (Deputy Headteacher)
Mr Hussain (Finance and Operations Manager) is also trained and supports on all aspects of Health and Safety and the safeguarding of the premises.
Mrs Ellis (Behaviour and Attendance Support Officer) is DSL trained.
What is safeguarding?
It might be difficult to accept, but every child can be hurt, put at risk of harm or abused, regardless of their age, gender, religion or ethnicity.
Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:
- protecting children from maltreatment
- preventing impairment of children’s health or development
- ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.
- taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes and “the action we take to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm - is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and families has a role to play.”
